Skate Deterrents

Small metal details. Carefully planned edges.

Rounded metal deterrents can interrupt grinding surfaces on selected ledges and site furniture. A useful brief starts with the existing edge profile, how people use the space and a mounting detail suited to the substrate.

FUNCTION / FORM / SITE

Define the complete product scope.

Potential components include short saddle profiles, small rounded blocks and formed edge fittings. The shape should be developed around the actual ledge rather than treated as an interchangeable accessory. Identify stone joints, thin cladding, hollow sections and concealed services before choosing an attachment method.

Preserve accessible routes, seating function and safe contact surfaces. Handrails require particular care: an added fitting must not compromise the required graspable surface or clearances. Have the responsible designer review the proposed layout and any applicable site requirements before releasing parts.

PRODUCT OPTIONS

Examples to shape your brief.

01

Stone and concrete ledges

Compact metal fittings developed around edge thickness, joint locations and acceptable drilling positions.

02

Bench edges and planter rims

Discrete components coordinated with seating use, cleaning access and the furniture's existing finish.

03

Replacement fittings

Match an established mounting pattern using measured drawings, photographs and a sample where practical.

DESIGN / PROCUREMENT

Resolve the details that affect the result.

01

Substrate and fixing

Identify the supporting material and its condition. Anchor selection, edge distances and adhesive compatibility need project-specific review.

02

Profile and contact

Specify rounded edges, projection and orientation. Review trip, snag and hand-contact risks with the site designer.

03

Finish and spacing

State corrosion exposure and appearance requirements. Provide a layout; do not assume one universal spacing prevents all skating.

Material and fabrication choices.

YOUR PRODUCT BRIEF

Give the quote a clear starting point.

  • Product dimensions, a sketch or drawing reference, and quantity.
  • Material and finish preferences, exposure and intended use.
  • Mounting substrate, site interfaces and installation requirements.
  • Delivery city and province, access constraints and desired dates.
  • Required design review, inspection or performance documentation.

Product configuration, fabrication feasibility, delivery and installation scope are confirmed against your requirements. Inquiries are welcome across Canada; the quotation defines the commitments for your location.

QUESTIONS / ANSWERS

Before you specify.

Can a fitting be made for an existing ledge?

Send the edge dimensions, substrate description, photographs and any permitted fixing zones. A matching profile can be assessed against those constraints.

Can deterrents be added to handrails?

Only after the responsible designer confirms that the layout preserves required handrail function, graspability and clearances. Ledge details should not simply be transferred to handrails.

Which finish should I specify?

Describe exposure to de-icing salt, cleaning products and frequent handling, as well as the desired appearance. Grade and finish selection are part of the review.

What makes a quote easier to prepare?

A marked-up site plan, edge cross-section, quantity, proposed mounting method and delivery city are more useful than a total perimeter measurement alone.
