INDUSTRIES / ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN

Carry the design intent into the details.

Translate visual intent into geometry, connections and finish criteria that can be reviewed. Good architectural metalwork starts with the details that remain visible.

CONTEXT / REQUIREMENTS

Fabrication in its working environment.

Architectural fabrication involves more than a material name and colour. Grain direction, edge treatment, joint spacing, fastener visibility and the transition to adjacent surfaces influence the finished appearance.

Design teams should identify which details are fixed and which can be developed during fabrication review. Mock-ups, samples and review points help align expectations without implying that an untested assembly already meets structural or envelope requirements.

APPLICATIONS / COMPONENTS

Potential components for your sector.

Examples for scoping a project. Final suitability depends on the design and operating conditions.

01

Feature panels

Cut or formed metal faces with visible joints and attachment strategy defined.

02

Decorative screens

Patterns with opening geometry, support and edge requirements.

03

Architectural trim

Returns, reveals and transitions coordinated with adjacent finishes.

04

Custom fixtures

Display and fit-out metalwork with use, loading and appearance specified.

05

Stainless accents

Visible components with grain direction and weld blending criteria.

06

Aluminum assemblies

Lightweight architectural components with movement and connection requirements.

SPECIFICATION / REVIEW

Plan the procurement, not just the part.

01

Specify the visible result

Document finish, sample references, viewing conditions and which faces remain exposed.

02

Resolve attachments

Coordinate substrates, movement, concealed fixings and access for installation or replacement.

03

Control the review sequence

Agree samples, mock-ups, drawing approval and the release point for repeated components.

CONNECTED PROCESSES

Complete the fabrication scope.

QUESTIONS / ANSWERS

Before you specify.

Can a rendering support a fabrication quote?

It communicates intent, but dimensions, material, attachment details and finish criteria are also needed. Identify any details still requiring design development.

How should grain direction be controlled?

Mark the direction on visible faces and identify how adjacent parts should align. Forming and part nesting should respect those instructions.

Are mock-ups always necessary?

They can be useful where appearance or interfaces are difficult to describe. Define what the mock-up must demonstrate and who approves it.

Can perforated panels be structural or guard elements?

Their function must be stated. Loads, openings, attachments and applicable requirements need review by the responsible designer rather than being inferred from a pattern.

DEFINE YOUR PROJECT
