FABRICATION SPECIALTIES / MACHINE GUARDS & PROTECTIVE COVERS
Machine Guards & Protective Covers: Define the hazard. Coordinate the guard.
Scope fabricated guard panels, frames and covers around a documented safeguarding design. Clear interfaces help maintenance teams and equipment designers coordinate physical barriers with the wider safety system.
FUNCTION / FIT / FINISH
Define the part in its working context.
Guarding starts with an assessment of the machine, tasks and hazards by the responsible competent team. Identify the purpose of each barrier, access frequency, openings and mounting arrangement. A fabricated cover is only one part of the safeguarding solution.
Physical components may use solid sheet, perforated material or framed infill depending on the specified duty. Visibility, cleaning and airflow need to be balanced against hazard containment and access prevention. Interlocks, control-system integration and validation must have explicit owners.
APPLICATIONS
Where the scope begins.
Fixed guard panels
Fabricated panels and frames produced to a reviewed design, with defined fastener access and mounting positions.
Removable service covers
Covers for planned maintenance access, coordinated with isolation procedures and the machine designer.
Guard-frame components
Posts, brackets and panel supports for integration into a project-specific safeguarding system.
DESIGN / PROCUREMENT
Resolve the details before fabrication.
Risk assessment and design
Provide the approved safeguarding layout, applicable project requirements and responsible reviewer. Do not determine opening sizes or safety distances from an image.
Access and controls
Identify doors, access frequency and any interlocks. Define who supplies, installs and validates safety-related controls; these are not implied by a metalwork quote.
Attachment and service
Confirm fixing substrates, machine movement, removal routes and cleaning needs. Identify changes to the original equipment that require manufacturer review.
QUOTE PREPARATION
Information for guard fabrication review.
Reviewed layout
Include hazard locations, guard boundaries and approved drawings. State which dimensions are measured and which remain provisional.
Panel schedule
List materials, panel sizes, quantities, finish, hinges and fastening details.
Installation responsibilities
Separate fabrication, site fitting, electrical integration and commissioning. State how final safeguarding acceptance will be documented.
Connect material and process.
Scope, material suitability, process availability and any inspection or installation commitments are confirmed through project review.

CONNECTED PROCESSES
Complete the fabrication scope.
QUESTIONS / ANSWERS
Before you specify.
Does a fabricated guard certify the machine as safe?
No. Fabrication does not replace risk assessment, safeguarding design, control-system validation or final acceptance by the responsible parties.
Can mesh or perforated panels be used?
Their suitability depends on the hazard and the reviewed design, including openings, distances and containment requirements. Specify the approved panel construction for review.
Are interlocks included?
Only if explicitly scoped and confirmed. Identify the control-system integrator and separate hardware supply, electrical work and validation responsibilities.
Can an existing guard be copied?
A sample may inform dimensions, but its adequacy cannot be assumed. Have the safeguarding design reviewed before replicating or modifying it.
YOUR NEXT STEP
Bring your machine guards & protective covers brief.
Include the component name in your project title, then add drawings, quantities, finish, delivery location and required dates. The quote link selects the relevant fabrication service.
